That team is made up of Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Port as Red Guardian, Julie Louis-Dreyfus as Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as an agent of the United States, Hannah John Kamen like ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and of course Florence Pug as Yelena Belova. Then, there is Harrison Fordwho will assume the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and will also be president of the United States in Captain America: New World Order.

We have now learned a new detail about the Thunderbolts team from Kevin Feige, and it turns out that Bucky Barnes is set to lead the team in the film. He told Entertainment Weekly:

“The funny thing about this, and I sort of told D23, is that they’re hardly heroes. None of them would consider themselves heroes. When your de facto leader is Bucky Barnes, that’s all you must know. This is the trickle down.’

It’s the first time I hear that Barnes will lead the team. It’s a pretty cool little development, and it’ll be interesting to see Barnes take on a leadership position like this. This will create a very fun dynamic, especially considering who makes up the team.

The film is still two years away from release, but Harbor previously teased it:

“Let’s introduce something that’s super cool. It’s vital. I’m thrilled that the character of Julia Louis-Dreyfus will, in a larger way, be explored. One of the things you probably know is that the dynamic of me and Florence is going to be there and explored in a really great way. But all these guys, Sebastian’s character, Wyatt’s character, I love this mercenary element in the MCU. The MCU has always been a bit elevated in a certain way. Captain America, even Iron Man, although he has an ego, they are always in it for the right reasons or he does the right thing in the end. And I like these guys who are a bunch of losers or a bunch of guys who just can’t get it right.

We have no idea what that is, but I hope it lives up to the hype! The film is directed by Jake Schreier (Paper city, Make fun of), from a screenplay by Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow) AND Kurt Busiek. Lightning will premiere on July 26, 2023.
