Spider-Man star Tom Holland is set to star in an untitled biopic about American Golden Age dancer, choreographer, actor, and singer, Fred Astaire, often referred to as the “greatest popular dancer of all time.” It is explained that as a dancer “he was known for his unnerving sense of rhythm, creativity and tireless perfectionism”. The film will be directed by Paddington franchise manager Paul King.

The film is said to center on the relationship between Astaire and his sister, Adele Astaire. “The two were inseparable for more than 20 years, going from a simple Midwestern vaudeville show in the early 20th century to Broadway and London’s West End in the 1920s. Adele Astaire was initially the face of the act, but eventually Fred’s consummate stage skills eclipsed hers. The duo separated in 1932 when their sister married, which was a blow to Fred, but it also turned his attention to Hollywood dance musicals, and subsequently set him on the road to cinematic immortality.

I know Fred Astaire and his work, but know nothing of his background or history. This should be an interesting movie. Astaire’s entertainment career spanned 76 years. He has starred in more than 10 Broadway and West End musicals, made 31 musical films, four television specials and numerous recordings.

Astaire shared a dance partnership with Ginger Rogers, with whom he starred in 10 Hollywood musicals during Hollywood’s Golden Age. They starred together in movies like Top hat (1935), Swing time (1936), e let’s Dance (1937). Astaire also starred in Holiday Inns (1942), Easter Parade (1948), The bandwagon (1953), Funny Face (1957), e Silk stockings (1957).

The first initial script of the film was written by Noah Rose. and subsequently rewritten by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot, Rocketman warhorse). You love Pascal, Rachel O’Conner, Ben Holden AND Josh Hyam they are producing. The American Film Institute has named Astaire the fifth greatest male star of classic Hollywood cinema in 100 years.

This will be a big project for both Holland and King, who recently wrapped production at Warner Bros.’ Wonkawhich is the origin story of Willy Wonka starring Timothee Chalamet.
