Though receiving mixed reviews at the time, ‘Constantine’ is now regarded as one of the best comic book adaptations in history. For many years, fans have been clamoring for a sequel, as has Keanu Reeves himself, who revealed that he lobbied Warner Bros. executives for a long time to get them to approve the second part.

In an interview for Total Film (via ComicBook), Keanu Reeves has revealed that he has been lobbying Warner Bros for many years ‘constantine 2’, a second part that seemed imminent, but has been forgotten over the years. However, thanks to the love of fans, along with the constant demand of the protagonist himself, a sequel to this character created by Alan Moore is now in development.

“I don’t know if it was an unfinished business, but it was definitely a role I loved. And I think Francis Lawrence, the director, did a great job. I loved playing that character and I really enjoyed the movie,” said Keanu Reeves. “I kept asking [a Warner] almost every year. I was like, ‘Can I please?’ [y] they would say, ‘No, no!’”

In the years, Keanu Reeves says he has come to love Constantine, and that he will do everything possible to do justice to the first part with the sequel: “It’s exciting. It’s almost like an outdoor playground where you hopefully can cook something and play games and I imagine stepping out of the playground and making a meal. But I can’t wait and I hope it can happen. You don’t know what these things will be like. But I will definitely do my best to try and make that dream come true.”

When does ‘Constantine 2’ with Keanu Reeves premiere?

Luckily, the sequel to this superhero movie classic appears to be safe from all cancellations with James Gunny Peter Safran at the helm of DC Studios. However, ‘Constantine 2’ doesn’t have a release date at the moment although Keanu Reeves has confirmed that they are working on crafting the perfect story for the film which is now available on HBO Max.

Obviously it is not known whether, in addition to Keanu Reeves, the rest of the cast could also return for the sequel, such as Rachel Weisz as Isabel, Tilda Swinton as the Archangel Gabriel, Peter Stormare once again as Satan, Shia LaBeouf as Chas or Djimon Hounsou as Midnite.

So we’ll have to wait if Gunn and company have information to reveal about “Constantine 2,” when they reveal their plans for DC Comics’ future on the big screen. And if there is a chance to see him in the new DC universe they are considering after the reboot in “The Flash”.
