Dave Bautista he is best known in his acting career for playing the character Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie for Marvel. After transitioning from his WWE wrestling career to acting, he’s worked on a lot of action films and a few comedies, and while the gig at Marvel was his biggest break, the actor recently spoke about how he really wants to switch between these types of roles and wants to be taken seriously as an actor.

He is starring in the upcoming dramatic thriller Knock on the boothby the director of the mind M. Night Shyamalan, and while the director openly praised Bautista’s performance in the film, it turns out that the actor took an active part in getting himself noticed by the director. He wrote him an email.
In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, Shyamalan said he was impressed with Dave Bautista’s performance in the sci-fi drama Blade Runner 2049but it was the actor’s email to the director saying he was a fan and would like to work with him that sparked Shyamalan’s idea of casting him as the gentle giant Leonard in Knock on the booth.
Shyamalan explained his response to Bautista:
“I said, ‘You know what, I’d like to meet you. Let’s talk.’ And I was like, God, this guy is exactly the main character. I mean, he’s Leonard. He’s amazing. And it’s Dave, at this point in his life, in his 50s, that makes him perfect for it. So add Dave with these people and Rupert on top of that […] and then also Nikki and Abby. This particular cast was the director’s dream: to have talent that was in the right headspace and ready to be vulnerable.”
co-star of Bautista Ben Aldridge she also shared her feelings for her co-star, saying:
“I think we shot a week and a half without Dave. […] It came directly from “Guardians”. I think she had, like, a day off or something. We were in the cabin for a while and then this energy from Leonard came. All of a sudden there was this Hollywood mega-action hero coming into this domestic environment and playing this very complex, tortured, kind character. It was disarming to have him there.”
Everything I hear about this film has made me more and more intrigued. I can’t wait to see this story unfold and see the performances of the cast. Dave Bautista is joined in the film by Jonathan Groff (Hamilton, Mindhunter), Ben Aldridge (Pennyworth, Lots of fleas), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Persuasion, Old), Kristen Cui, Abby Quinn (Little Women, Fixed network) And Rupert Grint (Servant, Harry Potter franchise).
Knock on the booth hits theaters February 3.
