There’s a lot going on at Warner Bros. regarding the future of DC movies. On top of James Gunn And Peter Safran planning a DC Cinematic Universe, The Batman director Matt Reeves he’s building his own Batman universe that won’t be connected to Gunn and Safran’s plans in any way.

During a recent interview with Collider, Reeves revealed that he’ll be meeting with the new heads of DC Studios to go over plans for the DC Universe and the BatVerse it’s building. He explained that the main goal is to ensure these separate universes “don’t collide with each other” in terms of storytelling. But, at the same time, they want to “support each other”. Reeves explained:
“They [Gunn and Safran] they were great. […] We’re actually supposed to meet in the next few weeks because they want to talk to me about the master plan, and then they want to hear about the BatVerse plan. We’re just getting together to talk about all of this. Look, I’m excited to hear what they’re going to do. The BatVerse thing, as James said, and as Peter said, that’s kind of what they’re letting us do.
Gunn and Safran are developing a 10-year plan for the DC Cinematic Universe, and their plans will include movie, TV, and video game spam. They will reveal the first three years of their plan this month. Gunn previously explained:
“We know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way. But we can promise that everything we do is done in service of STORY and in service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you love and have loved all our lives.
Reeves went on to talk about how they’re trying to support each other in their endeavors, but at the same time, make sure their story plans don’t crash in the process:
“I had this dream for the way I wanted it to play out and that’s part of what I’m going to talk to them about in a few weeks. They’ll tell me about what they’re doing in their 10-year plan or definitely even what’s in the near future so that we can understand that we’re not — it’s air traffic control — we don’t want to bump into each other. ‘other. We want to support each other. I’m super excited. I’m really excited to hear what they are doing and to work with them. It will be nice.
As for Gunn’s plans, all we know right now is that Gunn is currently developing a Superman movie and it won’t involve Henry Cavill. There’s a good chance there’s a Batman movie, too. Gunn also confirmed that some Elseworld movies were in development. Reeves, however, is developing The Batman sequels and a couple of shows based on Penguin and Arkham Asylum.
The future of DC movies will continue to be interesting.
