Simon Pegg recreated one of Shaun of the Dead’s most iconic scenes for a celebratory Instagram post.

The actor, who starred in the 2004 zombie movie, recreated the hilarious scene where Shaun goes to the corner store to buy a cornetto without noticing the zombie outbreak.

The 52-year-old strolled down the street and spoke to the camera, delivering a special message to his fans.

Simon wowed fans with the video, showing every little detail, even his little ride on the pavement.

When he arrives at the store, he goes in to buy his cornetto and thinks about what to film.

The clip ended with a sweet message wishing everyone “Season’s Greetings and a Happy New Year” while a Christmas carol played in the background.

Simon admitted he wanted to follow in Tom Cruise’s footsteps after the star jumped out of a helicopter and wished his followers a Merry Christmas.

He said: “Oh hi. Tom Cruise did a video this week where he jumped out of a helicopter and wished everyone happy holidays, which I thought was really cool.

“So I thought what can I do to stick to my own film and wish everyone happy holidays, but I couldn’t think of anything.

“So I thought what I would do is cross the street, buy a cornetto and think about it. It will be very nice if I do something special and about what I do.

“Tom’s doing all the jumping but I’m not really so give me a minute I’ll be back and wish everyone a Merry Christmas.”

Simon’s video caught the attention of Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright, who jokingly remarked: “It’s a complete rip off. You’ll hear from my lawyer later.”

Simon and his friend Nick Frost previously reprized their role as Shaun of the Dead to encourage people to stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

The duo, who played Shaun and Ed, went to a public announcement on YouTube on Thursday in which they performed a parody of the famous scene in which they hatch a plan in the midst of the zombie outbreak.

But funnily enough, Simon told his co-star NOT to go to the bar in Winchester, in stark contrast to the advice he gave in the film, leading to disaster.

The hilarious clip shows Simon, 50, on the phone with Nick, 47, where they set out their next steps, but instead of facing an onslaught from the dead, in real life they discussed how they would deal with the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.

Simon said, “Okay, call Mum and make sure she’s okay. If Phillip is infected, follow NHS guidelines closely.”

Phillip was of course Shaun’s stepfather in the film, played by Bill Nighy, who was unfortunately bitten by one of the deadly zombies.

The star then warns his friend not to go to his local bar, adding, referencing the hit film, “Remember what happened last time.”

He also urged Nick to be mindful of those who are more vulnerable, adding: “If you can, stay at home, have a cup of tea and wait until it’s all over.”

“Above all, don’t get too upset, we’re all in this together. Don’t be selfish, take care of each other, call someone if you think he/she is lonely.’

However, he jokingly denied Nick some important stuff when, when asked if he had a roll of toilet paper, he replied that it was one of his “last sheets”.

The camera showed him sitting at a table with a large supply of toilet paper.

The video ended with a written message urging fans not to panic and reminding everyone that they were all in this together, with “love” from Simon and Nick.

It comes weeks after Simon revealed that Mission: Impossible 7 producers brought production of their latest film out of Italy to protect actors and audiences from the coronavirus.

The actor said Paramount Pictures was “very cautious” about the spread of the infection near their Venice location and they had no choice but to suspend filming.

When asked by BBC Radio 6 if he was filming the seventh installment in the franchise, Simon replied: “[We’re] not in Venice, that’s where I need to be.

“Paramount was very careful and sensible, I think, and got the production out of Venice.

“It’s a big group of people, we were shooting carnival scenes and it just wasn’t wise to stay, so we eavesdropped.

Simon, who plays technical agent Benji Dunn in the series, continued: “I think it would be inappropriate to complain about anything other than that there was a lot of disruption for everyone.”

Stay at home: He also urged Nick to be aware of the more vulnerable, adding:
