Stephen King, who had known his love for good series for a long time, unexpectedly mentioned his favorite political project – and this is not at all “Western Wing”, as fans of American television classics might think.
According to King, one of the most powerful series about the authorities and the state is the Danish drama “Government” (in the original guarantors), which was released from 2010 to 2022. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he called it the “higher preduturgy League in every language” and recommended to look from the very start.
The main character of the series is Birgitte Nyborg, a female politician who becomes the first woman-prime minister of Denmark. The plot is not only built around laws, intrigues and coalitions, but also around how this power influences the family, marriage and personal life. Birgitte must be in balance between truth, compromises and their own values and this becomes heavier as responsibility grows.
The makers of the “government” have not made a bet on spectacular scandals, but on living emotions and real psychology. This is not about ‘ideal politicians’, such as in the Hollywood shows, but about complex, often unbearable decisions that you have to make public and pay for them at home.
In Russia the series can be found under the official name “Government”, in Kinopoisk it has a rating 7.9.
