The controversial plot solutions, the death of the most important character (suddenly for those who did not play the game) and the shift of accents did their work. The first season was almost unanimously praised. The second – already caused disputes. But now the fans were really furious about what is planned in the third.
And the point is not only in the audience, not familiar with games. Even fans of the original are furious.
Course on Abby
With the final of the second season, where Abby (Caitlin Diver) is confronted with Ellie (Bella Ramzi), it became clear: the third season will tell the same story, but from Abby’s point of view. The last scene showed her path that led to this meeting – and now HBO officially confirmed that the new season will be aimed at Abby. The saber will be in the middle of the plot.
During one of the events, the makers of the Craig Mazin and Neil Drakman series said that the third season would be “more over water than over fire” – a metaphor that fans immediately criticized due to a lack of hold.
Dracman admitted that he himself was shocked by the fact that the channel gave them the green light to such a structure. And he added: “Yes, the season will be with Caitlin. This makes the story special.” Only here doesn’t everyone want.
Fans were furious when Joel (Pedro Pascal) brutally killed Abby – one of the most shocking moments in the series. Moreover, the scene almost fascino repeated the game. Even gamers remained unhappy – not the event itself, but how quickly it happened. They didn’t have enough emotional training. Everything was crumbled.
The transition to the line of Ellie and Dina (Isabella Merced) did not help either. The series changed the genre sharply – from the post -apocalyptic action film to the personal drama of growing up. The action became smaller, the pace dropped and the atmosphere changed.
Against this background, the idea of devoting an entire season to a character, which annoys both the audience and part of the fan base of the game, it seems doubtful. Abby is not seen as a clear antagonist. It does not cause sympathy. And the show has no strength to take risks.
Spectators turn off
Only 3.7 million people watched the final of the second season – compared to 5.3 million at the start of the season. This is a minus of almost a third of the audience.
The discussion was violent on Reddit. After the announcement of the third season, many wrote directly: “I will not be sure,” said the Isleofsol user. Cubiscus added: “We don’t get ten hours with Abby at the same time, as in the game. We will have to wait two years. There is simply no emotional bond with the characters.” And DRED1367 believes that everything would work better if the second and third seasons were combined in one.
The majority of the audience – those who did not play – have already lost weight. And taking into account the fact that the third season is devoted to the character, which is not interesting for them, the situation looks sad.
