We’ve rounded up 11 21st century films that Stephen King named as his favorites. And not surprisingly, almost all of them are horror films. King’s favorites are both crime thrillers and quite romantic fairy tales (what if those turn out to be horror stories too). One of them is of course ‘Crimson Peak’ with Tom Hiddleston – a dramatic thriller with elements of melodrama by Guillermo del Toro.
Interestingly enough, Benedict Cumberbatch and Emma Stone were initially slated to star in this film. As a result, the film was directed by Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska. Del Toro wrote no fewer than twelve (!) versions of the script before settling on the final one – and even ended up making up new scenes during filming.
King raved about the film: in his words, “Crimson Peak” is “a luxurious and damn scary movie.” Well, if even the horror maestro himself thinks so…
