You cannot do the calculations alone.

One of the most frustrating challenges Lord of the Rings fans face when watching The Rings of Power is the uncertain timeline.

More than once, viewers have tried to figure out at what point in the book canon timeline certain events in the series take place.

For example, how old is Galadriel?

Calculating the age of the ‘immortal’ races has never been an easy task, as Tolkien’s fictional universe is at least 70,000 years old.

The author described a great deal of chronology, including the births of Galadriel, Elrond, Celebrimbor, and many others. Each of them lived for centuries, and by the time of the main events had left a whole millennium behind them.

Galadriel, however, is one of the oldest elves, born in 1392, when instead of the sun and moon great trees lit up the earth, that is, instead of solar years there were Valian years.

This further complicates attempts to calculate her exact age.

According to the canon, one Valian year is equal to 9.58 years, meaning that the heroine was 1322 years old in 1500. Tolkien later increased the difference in calculations to 144 years, but did not revise the chronology.

Based on two canons, Galadriel was 1912 years old at the time of Morgoth’s defeat.

Then the Second Age began, in which the plot of the show unfolds.

If we assume the story takes place in 1500 AD, when the rings were forged, then she 3412 years.

However, this is also inaccurate, as the scriptwriters combined two events nearly two thousand years apart: the creation of Narya, Nenya, and Vilia and the birth of Isildur, the future king of Gondor.

In this case Galadriel could be that 5353 years.
