The criticism is very justified.
In the rough years, or rather in 2006, a musical film “The Road of No Return” was shot in Russia, based on the books of Andrzej Sapkowski about the witcher Geralt. The musical did not receive (surprisingly, right?) wide recognition. But the “narrow” of the author of the saga is quite good.
“They certainly didn’t ask my permission. This is very Russian. But I really liked the musical,” Sapkowski said, laughing, in an interview with reporters.
“The Road of No Return” is not a horror, not a screamer, not an action film, it is an arthouse. What else could students film in Russia in the 2000s? The plot of the film is not centered on adventures and bright stories, but on the internal experiences of the main characters. And as we have already said, this had great consequences for the author of the story.

At the same time, Netflix’s “The Witcher” didn’t work out for Sapkowski at all. The writer has more than once publicly spat when talking about the streaming service’s box-office-busting series starring Henry Cavil.
“I’ve seen better film adaptations,” Sapkowski told the press sullenly.
And all this was before, in the following season, in addition to the writers’ endless ad-libs, the main character was also taken and replaced. So the domestic amateur filmmakers who filmed The Witcher without permission have a lot to be proud of, besides the illegal “piracy” of course.
