Jennifer Lawrence to Star and Produce Graphic Novel Adaptation WHY DON’T YOU LOVE ME? for A24

Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games, The Silver Linings Playbook) has signed on to star in and produce A24’s film adaptation of By Paul B. Rainey graphic novel Why do not you Love me?. Roberto Funke (How to Become a God in Central Florida) is set to define the adaptation of features.

Published in 2023, the graphic novel is a comedy about a couple facing difficulties in their marriage and feeling like something is wrong with their reality.

The comic book description reads: “Claire and Mark are in the turmoil of an unhappy marriage. She doesn’t take off her robe and smokes cigarette after cigarette while slumped on the couch.

“Mark has lost track of the days and can’t get the kids to school on time. They’ve lost interest in their family and have pizza and Chinese food delivered every night.

“Mark sleeps on the couch and has trouble remembering his son’s name. He feels like an impostor at work, but somehow manages. Claire stalks an ex-boyfriend. How could he abandon her to this life?

“Claire and Mark are both tormented by the idea that this is all a dream. Didn’t they have different lives? When news of an impending nuclear war comes on the radio, the truth begins to dawn on them: this is not the life they chose.

“Why Don’t You Love Me? is a dark comedy about marriage, alcoholism, depression, and mourning lost opportunities. Paul B. Rainey has created a hilarious and terrifying alternate reality where confusion and pain might lead people to make bad choices, but might also ultimately lead to freedom… maybe.”
