“The Squid Game” went so well in Russia that viewers are constantly looking for similar series, and some directors are even trying to film their own version. So, in 2023, a very similar series was released, but unfortunately, it did not repeat the success. Let’s tell you what’s going on with him.
What series are we talking about?
We are talking about a miniseries called “Digital Code”. It was directed by Alexander Lyuman-Mosiychenko and the main roles were played by Kirill Zhandarov, Polina Gukhman, Raisa Ryazanova, Maxim Karushev and others.
The plot revolves around a sinister Internet game popular among teenagers. It contains tasks, the essence of which is to commit a daring murder and earn money from it. The best investigators take on the investigation, including the main character, whose son is also addicted to this dubious toy.
The series was initially positioned as an alternative to The Squid Game, supposedly also an intense game, a dark plot and a lot of blood. But unfortunately the project failed miserably at home and did not repeat the same success. The main reason is the illogical behavior of the heroes, clichéd characters and bad acting.
On Kinopoisk the show scored only 4.8 points. Here’s what domestic viewers said about it:
“This is when a bad director makes even good actors perform very badly, and you generally want to laugh at the stuntmen.”
But foreigners strangely liked the series. On IMDb it got as much as 7.4 points, which is a very good rating. By the way, “Squid” is not much ahead of this work – it has exactly 8 points.
