Fans of The Joker have labeled Joaquin Phoenix as “the greatest actor who ever lived” as test footage of the first film resurfaces.
The award-winning film Joker was released in theaters on October 4, 2019, with director Todd Phillips’ highly anticipated sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, set for release on October 4, 2024.
In the photos shared online, the 49-year-old actor, who won Best Actor at the Oscars, was seen doing a make-up test.
In the terrifying role, Joaquin transforms from the troubled comedian Arthur Fleck into the nihilistic criminal clown Joker.
Fans of the DC franchise praised his “utterly believable” and “terrifying” performance, years after the film’s initial release.

One person said: “Best Joker ever.” I can’t believe it, but he even surpasses Mark Hamill. “This Joker is completely believable and therefore much more terrifying.”
Another added: “His acting in it was so unreal, it was amazing to see him go from a shy recluse to a psychopath.”
“In my opinion, Joaquin Phoenix is the greatest actor who ever lived. ‘Genius!’ wrote a third fan.
“Even without music he’s so distracting,” another commented, while another added: “He doesn’t need to act, he’s a joker.”
Earlier this month, director Todd delighted fans with another photo from the highly anticipated comic book movie.
The 52-year-old filmmaker uploaded a photo on his Instagram account of actor Joaquin Phoenix completely embodying the villainous title character.
With his eyes closed, Phoenix strolled in the downpour as passersby with colorful umbrellas strolled by him.
Phoenix looked happy as he tilted his head to the sky, seemingly oblivious to the others around him.

Praise: One fan wrote: “Man his acting was so unreal, going from a shy recluse to a psychopath was amazing to watch.”
‘October. 4. Thank you for all messages. Four years ago we had quite a ride. Very nice memories. There is more to come,” Phillips wrote in the post.
The upcoming sequel will be released exactly five years after its predecessor’s theatrical release on October 4, 2024.
Phoenix returns as the titular villain, while Lady Gaga has joined the cast as the crazy Harley Quinn.
Gaga reportedly used a pretty interesting technique on the set of the film when she took on the role of the villain.
Cinematographer Larry Sher revealed this The Trenches TV Podcast, which Gaga wanted to call “Lee” on set.
Sher also served as cinematographer for the 2019 Joker film, which won Phoenix his Best Actor Oscar, confirming that he was “100% in the role at all times.”
He added that Phoenix came to him on the second day of filming and apologized “because I was weird anyway, I just have to stay (in character).”
Sher said he told him not to worry at all and to “just do his thing,” but with Stefani, he had never met her before the project and it was very different.

First part: The upcoming sequel will be released exactly five years after the theatrical release of its predecessor (Joaquin Phoenix in Joker 2019).

Coming soon: Lady Gaga joins Oscar-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix in the highly anticipated film “Joker: Folie a Deux,” which hits theaters on October 4, 2024.
“I feel like I never really met her, not even during the makeup hair test,” Sher began on the podcast.
“Because again, maybe my philosophy is to never enter their territory,” he explained.
“And then I remember thinking for a week, ‘God, I feel like we’re separated, not even connected. We disagree,” Sher said.
“And I would say to my crew, ‘Jesus, I can’t do this. I feel like she hates me, or we hate each other, or there’s something weird going on here,” Sher admitted.
The cameraman added that he would hardly say anything other than “little things” to her if he realized she wanted a different name.
“Then at one point the AD (assistant director) said, ‘Oh, you know, Stef would love it if you just called her Lee on set,'” Sher explained.
“And I thought, ‘Oh, 100%.’ And then I said literally the next thing I said was something from Lee and it was like everything changed.
“From that moment it was as if our whole connection changed. I thought, well, that’s all I need to know.

He added that their connection for the rest of the film “grew as the film progressed and I think by the end we felt connected in the sense that we did it together, which was joyful and fulfilling.”
Very little is known about the story, although it was revealed at the end of 2019’s “Joker” that Arthur Fleck/Joker ended up in Arkham Asylum, where psychiatrist Harleen Frances Quinzel first meets Joker in her comic origin story.
Quinn is assigned to treat Joker, but instead falls in love with him and becomes his evil henchman and is transformed into Harley Quinn.
