Matthew Perry’s beauty queen girlfriend said the star was “100 per cent” sober before his tragic death aged 54, responding to speculation about his death.
Matthew was found in a hot tub at his Pacific Palisades home on Saturday, October 28. Before his death, he spoke openly about his decades-long battle with addiction.
Athena Crosby, who had lunch with the star a day before his death, told Fox News Digital: “He was 100 percent sober when he died.”
“I mean, I don’t know exactly what he was thinking or feeling. I can only share my experience. And of course he was his own person; Maybe he said, did or thought things the day he died that I may never know.
‘In the interaction I had with him he was extremely positive, down to earth, behaved normally, spoke very well and did not give me the impression that he was at all. So I think people are speculating that it was a relapse situation. I just want to defend him and say that was not the case.’

“I was just having lunch with a friend and I didn’t think about it, didn’t feel like anything was coming,” she said. “I didn’t suspect anything. He was completely normal. So I went home later and didn’t think about it until the next day when I heard the news.
She confirmed that she was not in a relationship with Perry at the time of his death.
“I think a lot of this speculation comes from the fact that people really cared about Matthew and really wanted him to find love. And they really wanted him to have a family and kids because that’s something he expressed and said he really wanted,” Crosby said.
“You know, of course people think it could be anyone. And I happened to be the last person seen with him. But we weren’t really involved in that respect.’
“The conversation started with him talking about his recovery and his advocacy work and how he really wanted to start a foundation to help people on their road to recovery and generously donate money from his success in the industry to help other people to help recovery.”
“He also said that the medium of storytelling was the way he wanted to achieve this. “Since he was an actor, he liked to be creative and he liked to appear in films and television shows.”
It came after Athena said Perry’s obsession with Batman was “not a cry for help,” said the late actor’s friend, who was one of the last to see him alive.

“He was just a sweet nerd who loved Batman. In the book he talks about his love for Batman. Anyone who speculates that has anything to do with that is wrong.”
Athena said she came forward “to testify to Matthew’s character the day before he died.”
She said: “He was in extremely good spirits, looking forward to the future and looking after his health.” The fact that he died was a terrible accident. There is nothing strange about it.’
Fans speculated that Matthew’s fixation on Batman was a cry for help after all seven of his most recent social media posts referenced the superhero.
The frequent references to the Batman logo led many fans to believe that it was actually Perry’s own Bat Signal, the emergency signal used in the fictional Gotham City to call Batman for help.
Fans suspected that the actor’s messages might have been his own cry for help.
Matthew often captioned his posts with “I’m Mattman” – his Batman-inspired nickname.

Pickleball was the sport Perry would play just hours before his death.
He also posted a video of three red berries and wrote: “I had to eat them today.” I’m Mattman and I’m also a Cut Pumpkin with hole with Batman logo.
His penultimate message came from the crescent moon in the sky with the caption: “Do you understand what I want to tell you?” – I’m Mattman.’
And in his last public post, he called himself Mattman again as he posed in a pool at night, with the crescent moon behind his back, with the caption: “Ah, hot swirling water like this makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.”

The investigation into Perry’s death is ongoing, but officials said there is no evidence of foul play.
He is believed to have drowned, although no official cause of death has been released.
First responders at the scene revealed that when Perry was found by his assistant, he was found underwater before they lifted his head in a desperate attempt to give him some air.
When the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at his home in the Pacific Palisades, the actor was later found dead.
It comes after a 15-second call emerged showing the moment his assistant called 911 to report a possible cardiac arrest.
Perry has spoken openly about his past struggles with alcohol and drug abuse, but has said in recent interviews that he was sober and sober.
Perry wrote in his memoirs published last year that he spent $9 million to get sober. He revealed that he has attended 6,000 AA meetings, been to rehab 15 times and detoxed 65 times.
First responders reportedly found antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication in the building, but there were no signs of illegal drugs.
Family friends also reported that he appeared “tired” in the days before his death.
