Olivia Rodrigo has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Olivia Rodrigo has been added to the lineup for this Friday’s 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony and will reportedly join inductee Sheryl Crow on stage.

The Rock Hall announced Rodrigo’s performance today, posting on Instagram that the Waste The singer will “perform with one of her heroes” during the induction ceremony this Friday. However, the mysterious guest did not remain a mystery for long: in an interview with The New York TimesRock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Chairman John Sykes apparently couldn’t hold back and revealed that Rodrigo will be performing with Crow.

“Olivia Rodrigo is coming with us this year,” Sykes said in the interview. “Last year she got up and sang ‘You’re So Vain’ by Carly Simon. This year she will be playing with Sheryl Crow. It is this mutual admiration that connects the past with the present.”

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 38th annual induction ceremony begins Friday at 8 p.m. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. This year’s nominees are Crow, Kate Bush, Willie Nelson, George Michael, Missy Elliott, Rage Against the Machine and the Spinners. The Musical Excellence Awards go to Chaka Khan, Al Kooper and Bernie Taupin, with DJ Kool Herc and Link Wray named as role models. Late Soul Train Creator and host Don Cornelius is included as a non-performer.

The ceremony will be broadcast live on Disney+. Disney-owned linear network ABC will air a special featuring performances on January 1.

In addition to Rodrigo and Crow, Brandi Carlile, Dave Matthews, HER, Chris Stapleton, St. Vincent and New Edition also perform.

This year’s event will likely be one of the most scrutinized ceremonies in Rock Hall history: earlier this year, Jann Wenner, founder of Rolling stone magazine and co-founder of the Rock Hall, was expelled from the foundation after giving it an interview The New York Times which was widely regarded as racist and misogynistic. He later apologized.
