Deadly wildfire: The death toll in the deadliest US wildfire in more than a century, which raged through Lahaina on Aug. 8, recently rose to 99 after Maui County police discovered more remains.

So far, police have identified the remains of 97 people from the Aug. 8 fire that destroyed much of Lahaina, a historic town on Maui’s west coast. The remains of two people have yet to be identified. Six people are still missing.

The wildfire started in a meadow in the Lahaina Hills. Strong winds associated with a hurricane moving south of Hawaii carried embers from house to house, hampering firefighting efforts.

More than 2,000 buildings were destroyed and around 8,000 people had to move to hotels and other temporary accommodation.

Guy won the second season of The Next Food Network Star in April 2006 and has been a fixture on the Food Network ever since.
