Garner is currently starring in and producing the AppleTV+ adaptation of the best-selling book.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly earlier this month, Garner expressed how much she would love to play Hannah and how much effort she put into landing the role.
“I tried,” she admitted. “And I stayed up all night writing letters, like all night, like watching the sunrise, just writing letters and rewriting and sending those letters. And the next night I did it again.’
The show’s IMDB synopsis reads: “A woman forms an unexpected relationship with her 16-year-old stepdaughter as she searches for the truth about why her husband mysteriously disappeared.”
Jennifer’s husband in the series, Owen, is played by Game of Thrones alumnus Nikolaj, and her teenage stepdaughter is played by Angourie Rice.
“I haven’t heard from Owen in 24 hours,” Hannah says of her husband, who disappeared and left a message asking her to protect their stepdaughter, Bailey.
The exciting trailer for the series delves deeper into the mystery, and a man tells her, “Your husband is not who you think he is.”
The series also reunites Garner — who appeared on the set of the series last spring — with her Alias co-star and one of her real-life BFFs, Victor Garber.
“I may not know why your father did what he did, but I know who he is,” Hannah tells her stepdaughter.
“Why do you make him sound like a criminal mastermind,” Garner’s character asks someone while investigating her husband’s disappearance.
Laura Dave created and edited the seven-part series with her Academy Award-winning husband, Spotlight screenwriter Josh Singer.
Garner is producing the series with Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for their production company Hello Sunshine.

“The show is really a love story between two women: a girl who doesn’t know how to be a mother and a woman who doesn’t know how to be a mother,” the actress told the outlet , Garner explained.
“And they start off in a conflicting role with each other, and their lives are so completely blown up that the game couldn’t be bigger, that they have to start working together as a team, whether they like it or not.” ‘
The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is a free, public festival celebrating the written word.
It is the largest book festival in the United States, attracting approximately 150,000 weekend visitors to the University of Southern California each year.
