Jamie Lee Curtis on her first Oscar nomination, the sequel she wants to do and how she thought she was fired for Halloween – The Actors’ Side

Jamie Lee Curtis is undoubtedly Hollywood royalty. As the daughter of two real-life movie stars, Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, and goddaughter of industry legends Lew and Edie Wasserman, she’s proven she can be a star (and now a producer) in her own right. And now, like her parents before her, she’s earned her first Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination as Deirdre Beaubeirdre Everything everywhere at once – ironically the same category in which her mother was nominated 62 years ago Psycho.

Given the wide variety of roles in Curtis’ filmography, I’d say it was time, and as she tells me in this week’s installment of my Deadline video series, The Actor’s Side, it is one of the great thrills of her life. In fact, she also made history by joining the exclusive club of other famous families — Fonda, Dern, Redgrave and Huston — by nominating three members over the decades.

We talk about her long career and she is not shy to reveal her age which is 64 years old; When I mention the Beatles song “When I’m Sixty-Four”, she actually surprises me with her response and an accompanying Jamie Lee Curtis ritual. Of course with even more success now at this age after the last one Halloween Trilogy and finale for Laurie Strode, plus big hits like knife out many new projects on the horizon and now this Oscar nomination, you don’t need the answer to the musical question “Will you still love me when I’m 64?” not to guess.

During our conversation, we spanned the length of her career in front of the camera – from her first appearance The Secrets of the Hardy Boys / Nancy Drew And quincy to favorite movies like A Fish Named Wanda, Trading Places, True Lies and countless others – to other highlights such as the children’s book series she wrote and new ventures such as manufacturing. She even offers some firsts and a suggestion that she has an idea for a sequel of hers Crazy Friday which starred Lindsay Lohan.

Of course, we also talk about what that Oscar nomination entails and what happened the day she found out. However, we start with a story about a call from Halloween Director John Carpenter and the dark thought that went through her head during filming.
