The popular animated fantasy epic from DreamWorks Animation How to train your dragon is getting a live-action film adaptation! With Disney making a ton of money remaking their animated classics into live-action, I guess it was only a matter of time before we started seeing this happen with some of the DreamWorks movies.
The project is set up at Universal Pictures and the director behind the original films, Dean DeBlois, will write, direct and produce the film. The project is already in development and the studio has set the release date for March 14, 2025. Casting is currently underway.
It is explained that this new Dragon “will adapt the trilogy of films made by DreamWorks”. How to Train Your Dragon is based on the books by Cressida Cowell and the story centers on the special friendship between a young Viking boy named Hiccup and Toothless, a wounded dragon who he nurses back to health. It was a coming-of-age story that followed them on a quest to address humanity’s prejudice against dragons.
Well, I wish the creative team the best of luck and hope they deliver a great live-action adaptation that fans will love. This has been a fantastic franchise, and with the original writer and director involved, I think it has a good shot at success. What do you think about it?
