Angela Bassett receives the Distinguished Artisan Award from the Guild of Makeup Artists and Hairstylists

Angela Bassett receives the 2023 Distinguished Artisan Award from the Guild of Makeup Artists and Hairstylists (MUAHS). The actor, director and executive producer will accept the award on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at The Beverly Hilton.

“Local 706 would like to pay tribute to Angela Bassett, who portrayed incredibly iconic women that we can all relate to. She boldly teams up with her 706 makeup and hair teams to unleash her imagination and create magical yet relatable characters you’ll remember forever – from beloved Queen Ramonda to spunky Tina Turner to Bernadine in Waiting to Exhale. We couldn’t think of a better person to celebrate our 10th anniversary,” said Julie Socash, president of IATSE Local 706.

The Distinguished Artisan Award recognizes Bassett’s diverse career on screen and television, having recently received a Golden Globe Award and a SAG Award for her work. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The MUAHS Award honors talents who have created memorable characters throughout their careers, amply enhanced by the rigorous collaboration of makeup and hairstyling artists. Past honorees have included Jon Favreau, Eddie Murphy, Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Ryan Murphy, Dick Smith, Guillermo del Toro, Sir Patrick Stewart, Melissa McCarthy and Gary Oldman.

Bassett’s extensive career includes films such as Wait for the exhalation, How Stella got her groove back and the Tina Turner biography What does love have to do with it. She recently wrapped production on the Netflix Originals film. maidto Millie Bobby Brown.

The 10th Anniversary MUAHS Awards will be presented by Melissa Peterman. As previously announced, Steve La Porte (bug juice) and hairstylist Josée Normand (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl) receive the Lifetime Achievement Awards. Makeup artist Fred C. Blau Jr. (planet of apes) joins hairstylist Judy Crown (His field) as a recipient of the prestigious Vanguard Awards.
