Vice Media will lay off about 2% of its digital news and publishing staff as part of recent consolidation efforts

Vice Media has laid off about a dozen editorial and news staff as part of its latest round of layoffs.

The youth-focused media company behind shows like Showtime shamehas laid off about 2% of its news staff, including people who work across digital news, its brands like Refinery29 and Noisey, and its flagship brand Vice News.

Vice’s layoffs come as the broader entertainment business undergoes similar changes. Warner Bros. Discovery and NBCUniversal made some cuts at their operations, and Disney this afternoon began making “difficult” and “uncomfortable” decisions to reduce its roughly 190,000 workforce.

The cuts at Vice are part of a consolidation effort that began with the promotion of Cory Haik from chief digital officer to chief operating officer, news and entertainment.

Haik was promoted at the same time as Morgan Hertzan, who became President of Global TV, as well as renewed contracts for President, Global News and Entertainment Jesse Angelo, who reports to Haik and Hertzan, and Subrata De, who oversees all reporting at Vice Media .

The cuts come ahead of a possible sale, which some sources say could happen before the end of the year, although it is believed to be unrelated to such a deal. The Greek broadcaster Antenna Group, which has a joint venture with the company in southern Europe, is believed to be one of the contenders to acquire the company.

The layoffs come a year after Vice laid off more than a dozen employees as it reduced the number of articles published on its online sites and shifted its focus to videos.

There are also some changes due to UK consolidation with a reorganization of Pulse Films and Vice Studios. There were some irregularities within the scripted and unscripted production teams in London.

The company, run by former A+E Networks CEO Nancy Dubuc, recently won a number of awards at the News and Documentary Emmys.
