European Athletics Championships: Arthur Abele’s surreal solo race despite disqualification! (VIDEO)

German Arthur Abele, one of the athletes who competed in the 110 meter decathlon hurdles at the European Athletics Championships, did not run with his opponents and faced the track alone. And for an incredible reason!

This is one of the series that will remain in the annals of the 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich. And rightly so, because it’s one of the most spectacular moments since the contest kicked off on August 15.

The decathletes competing for the European championship made an appointment this Tuesday morning to compete in the 110 meter hurdles. But things didn’t go as planned for European champion German Arthur Abele, who won in this discipline in Berlin in 2018 (the 2020 edition in Paris was canceled due to Covid-19).

It really got off to a bad start. Problem: The new rules require that only one false start be accepted per race during combined events. However, the Germans were second only to the Swiss Simon Ehammer. Arthur Abele, who was already warned at 100 meters on Monday, was therefore completely and simply kicked out of this 110-meter obstacle.

This decision caused controversy after watching it in slow motion. As the story continues Le FigaroThe Germans do not appear to be leading at the start signal, but a simple pressure at the starts will be enough to create a false start. “Arthur Abele, backed by the public who gave him a long applause and booed the referees when he left the track, would not score in this competition. What kept him away from a possible medal while he was in a good position to take the podium.

In response to this unfair disqualification, the German Federation filed a complaint, causing the judges to arrest the athlete. The person who will end his career at the end of this 2022 European Championship has finally managed to race again but alone on the track. He earned another 911 points with a time of 14.50. Note that the French Baptiste Thiery finished 3rd.to In his series in 15”10, he increased his counter by 837 points.
