Henry Sandon dead: ‘Antiques Roadshow’ expert was 95

Henry Sandon, eld Antique Roadshow Pundit, television personality, author and lecturer, has passed away. Sandon died “peacefully” at a nursing home in Malvern, Worcestershire, on Monday, his son John Sandon confirmed to the BBC. He was 95.

Sandon joined BBC One Antique roadshoww in 1979 as a permanent expert in the field of porcelain and earthenware. His last appearance was on September 30, 2018.

“To the millions who came to watch every Sunday night The Antiques Roadshow“Henry was like a favorite uncle whose enthusiasm for even the humblest piece of china was contagious,” John Sandon, who also appeared on the show, said in a statement.

“His delight at discovering a rare Staffordshire potter’s owl jug nicknamed ‘Ozzie’ was a magical television moment that few will forget.”

Sandon was an expert on Worcester porcelain and curator of the Dyson Perrins Museum, which later became the Worcester Porcelain Museum and then the Museum of Royal Worcester.

The Museum of Royal Worcester paid tribute to Sandon on X, saying: “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Henry Sandon passed away on Christmas morning.
