Ricky Gervais responds to a petition calling for jokes to be removed from Netflix’s “Armageddon” special

Ricky Gervais has a message for those who don’t understand his humor. The comedian has finally filed a petition to remove a controversial joke from his upcoming Netflix comedy special. Armageddon, aired on Christmas Day.

The offending joke stems from the fact that Gervais allegedly makes videos for terminally ill children for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Gervais claims he doesn’t drop into hospitals and say, ‘Wake up, bald guy’.”

He then added that he started his videos to the kids by saying, “Why didn’t you want to get better?” What, you fucking ass**Ed Also?”

Outrage followed.

Speaking about the issue on BBC Radio 5 Live, Gervais said: “I’m literally joking that I don’t. But people respond. They don’t analyze it. You feel something – it’s offensive. It’s a feeling. Therefore, “I am offended” is completely meaningless. What should I change?”

He then shared that he believes “99 percent of it” is a “fake insult.”

“They are not really offended. They just want to be heard.

“Of all the millions of people who have seen and enjoyed it, few dislike it,” he added. “If I give them special attention and try to reassure them, I upset the other millions of people who got the joke. They say, “No, you ruined it for us!”

“I have a duty to the people who like it and who get it. I wouldn’t sit down with a crochet, would I? If I played in front of 20,000 people, I wouldn’t stop the show and explain it to them. I ignore them.”
