The Critics Choice Awards are just around the corner.
The Critics Choice Association announced today that the 29th annual trophy show will be moved to the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica rather than the Fairmont Century Plaza, where a dispute with hotel officials continues.
“We regret that a labor dispute has made it impossible to hold the 29th annual Critics Choice Awards at Fairmont Century Plaza, where it has enjoyed great success for the past two years,” said Joey Berlin, CEO of the Critics Choice Association. , said. “But we’re excited to return to the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, where our show has also enjoyed great success over the years.”
The CCAs have been held at the local airport eight times in the past ten years. The ceremony took place last year at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
The Fairmont is one of several local hotels that remain in conflict with Unite Here Local 11, which represents more than 32,000 workers employed at hotels, restaurants, airports, sports arenas and convention centers in Southern California and Arizona. The union reached an agreement last month with a number of local properties, including the Beverly Hilton, which will host the Golden Globe Awards next month.
“It will be the exact same show for viewers at home,” added Berlin, “and we will now be able to accommodate even more of our members who travel from all over the world to enjoy the evening with the hundreds of stars in the room. “. room that night.”
