Herman Rush, a veteran television producer best known for his licensing Till death do us partthe British sitcom that changed Norman Lear All in the familyDied of natural causes on December 12 at the age of 94 in Los Angeles, according to various news reports.
Rush began his career in 1951 in sales for Official Film. He later bought Flamingo Films, a television syndication company, and expanded it into a major independent syndication company.
By the 1970s, Rush was president of the television division of Creative Management Associates and was instrumental in the agency’s entry into television packaging. Some of the shows he has been placed on networks are included The Perry Como Show, The Jackie Gleason Show, The Kraft Music Hall And The Hollywood Palace.
H also represented producer Irwin Allen on TV hits Journey to the bottom of the sea, Lost in space, the time tunnel, And Land of giants.
In the late 1960s Rush acquired land from the British Lord Lew Grade. One of them was the popular sitcom Till death do us partwhich was later sold to Norman Lear, who made something of it All in the family.
In 1980, he was named president of Columbia Pictures Television Group and launched more than a dozen series, including Believe it or not: Ripley, Mike Hammer And women design.
He also founded Katz/Rush Entertainment with Raymond Katz, who served as producer The New Original Amateur Hour, The Susan Powter Show, Miss America: Behind The Crown And Night cap.
Rush leaves behind children Mandie and Jim.
