DEVASTATION WARNING! This post contains details of Thursday’s episode The golden bachelorincluding who receive a rose after the stay.
Hometown dates are finally here, so get ready for lots of tears and some delighted declarations of love.
On ABC, three more women compete for Gerry Turner’s heart The golden bachelor. In Thursday’s episode, Gerry travels across the country to visit Faith, Leslie and Teresa and meet their families. Gerry looks hopeful but nervous as he boards his first flight to LAX. He thinks he’s falling in love, but so far he hasn’t told any of the women about his feelings.
First he goes to Shrewsbury, New Jersey to visit Teresa. Her family is excited to meet Gerry, and her daughter even says she was the one who encouraged Teresa to apply for the show. Gerry not only meets Teresa’s daughter and grandchildren, but also her two sisters. Not surprisingly, Gerry gets on well with the whole family. Teresa’s sisters say they believe she has found her person.
But Teresa’s daughter thinks more practically. She asks Gerry some tough questions that he doesn’t necessarily have the answers to. Did he think about the reality of them living in two different places? Unlike the contestants in their 20s, Teresa and her two other suitors have a whole life ahead of them that they will have to destroy if they move away from their hometown. She explains that they are used to seeing Teresa almost every day, and while she would never stop her mother from following her heart, it would be sad to see her go.
Gerry may not have an answer yet, but he assures her that he is committed to finding a solution that works for both families. That seems like a good enough answer, at least for now. The two end their day with some time to themselves and as they ride the Ferris wheel together on the pier, Teresa tells Gerry that she can’t imagine her life without him. Gerry reacts a little warily to Teresa, but says in a confessional that he fell in love with her.
But for now, Gerry has to move on. It’s time for his second birthday, this time in Benton City, Washington, at Faith’s house. She meets Gerry on her property, a vast rural area. She introduces him to her horses and explains that she’s not sure how Gerry would feel about trading the suburbs for the outdoors. I mean, she sometimes rides her horse to the grocery store. It will certainly be a bit of a change for Gerry. As with most things, he goes at walking pace and before you know it, he’s driving like a pro.
Faith also brings up the idea of reconciling where she lives, as she’s not sure if she’s ready to give up her lifestyle or her family. Again, Gerry doesn’t really have an answer, but he reiterates his intention to work it out together. Apparently that’s all they can really ask for at this point. They don’t think about it for long because Gerry now has to get to know Faith’s family. Her two sons, grandchildren and older sister are waiting. They all seem instantly impressed, but none more so than Faith’s sister, who becomes emotional as she tells Faith she believes Gerry makes her feel safe – a quality other men she’s dated haven’t had.
Most of the family’s questions revolve around whether Gerry is doing his best to protect Faith’s heart given the circumstances. He assures everyone that it is him as he declares his love for her in front of the entire family. Faith reciprocates and you can almost see the fireworks in her eyes as she makes it out in front of everyone.
Last but not least, Gerry travels to Minneapolis, Minnesota for his birthday party with Leslie. She tells Gerry that he will not only meet her children, but also her brother, who has been like a father to her since her father died when she was a teenager. Gerry needs his blessing to continue with Leslie.
Again, everything seems to be going smoothly. Her kids seem to really like Gerry, and the grandkids love being able to make fun of their grandma’s boyfriend. Of course, Leslie’s brother is a bit cautious because he doesn’t want his sister to get hurt. But he recognizes that Gerry is very different from the other men Leslie has dated, so he gives Gerry the seal of approval. After the date, Leslie tells Gerry that she is in love with him and he immediately replies.
At this point it seems pretty clear who is likely to move on to the fantasy suites as Gerry only said the big three words to two of the remaining women. But anything can happen!
During the rose ceremony, everyone is at full speed. Gerry gives Leslie the first rose. Before he can hand out the second rose, he gets very emotional and goes outside to collect himself. He doesn’t seem to be confused. In fact, he seems to know exactly what to do, but is afraid of the pain it would cause if he did.
That’s it people! I guess we’ll find out who else is moving on next week.
The golden bachelor airs Thursdays at 8pm ET/PT on ABC.
