In what mood do you approach this finale?
Mr. Matt: It would be an exaggeration to say I’m calm, I’m going step by step and savoring every moment, enjoying it because winning or losing Saturday will be the end of the adventure for everyone.
How did you choose your solo title?
I had a small idea and talked to Vianney about it. He offered me another song that I didn’t believe in at first (laughs), and I took it as a challenge to interpret this title, which I would have never thought of at the end. I still had the freedom to refuse, we really choose the two.
Is your stage experience an advantage over other finalists?
I don’t know… I have been told many times that I am the “dean” of this competition, but they are still “laughing”. It’s true that I have a bottle as they say, but I’ve never been so stressed. For example, I might be under more pressure than someone like Nour, who comes in fresh at 16 and has nothing to lose.
Looks like you were hesitant to join The Voice?
Yes, I was very hesitant. To be honest, I’ve never been a fan of the show, and when I was told, I replied with a bit of disdain, “this is not for me”. I’ve been on the road and making music for years… I guess I was just afraid of hurting myself. Finally, when I was offered to cast, I told myself I had nothing to lose. I have lived, and still live, thanks to this emanation of extraordinary things. I have rarely had such a good experience in my life.
