Arturo Gravalos, a young 25-year-old Spanish cyclist, died on Friday, May 19, after a long battle with a brain tumor, as his team, Eolo-Kometa, announced in a press release:The Eolo-Kometa cycling team announces the passing of its rider Arturo Gravalos in the early hours of the morning with deep sadness and great pain. The Riojan cyclist celebrated his 25th birthday on March 2. His death leaves an unfillable void in our hearts, for we will never forget his joy and eternal smile. The will to live, which was always present even before the onset of the disease, has left us thousands of magical moments in competition and out of competition.

In continuation of this homage, the Eolo-Kometa formation, created by the Alberto Contador Foundation, returned to the runner’s long fight against the disease: “Arturo Gravalos underwent surgery in November 2021 for a brain tumor that was diagnosed a few weeks ago, after a few days in training. The development of this operation was very positive, but the cyclist had to undergo several operations to try to destroy a tumor.
Arturo never gave up because it was in his nature to hand out aprons. He didn’t set a deadline for this comeback, but it was clear he would see every race in life as an opportunity. Arturo wanted to leave a mark on this sport, which he loved very much and for which he aroused a lot of love, that he left a very good mark on the pain of his opponents in the accelerations he made while he was an amateur and even professional. as in its last race: the 2021 Giro del Medio Brenta. He kept his grief or regrets to himself, refusing to give them continuity. With his big smile, closeness and frankness, he never stopped building, supporting, praising and giving thanks. Arturo we will never forget you. Rest in peace.

Promising a great career, Arturo Gravalos finished a notable second in the Spanish road championship in 2019. But last Monday, the man from Zaragoza shared reassuring news about his health, even hinting at the possibility of returning to the competition:I want to say that my recovery is going very well and I hope to resume training soon, as I did a few months ago. The reason why this new operation has not been announced to the public before is simple: With your interest and support from my team, I am confident we will get through this new phase to maintain our peace of mind that my family and I have to face this new phase. come out a winner. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the many expressions of compassion and support I have received since the beginning of this struggle for me.
