Bill Maher had some thoughts on Fox’s $787.5 million settlement with Dominion Voting Systems real time tonight.
After talking about the settlement and how he stopped Fox executives and Fox News figures from testifying under oath, Maher concluded, “This is how they avoided a trial and the terrifying prospect of being at the to swear truth.”
As for the truth, Maher reviewed internal Fox texts that were released during the trial. He noted that Tucker Carlson — who had Trump lawyer Sydney Powell on his show and gave her “credibility” — had privately described Powell as a “psychopath … liar … and fucking bitch.”
And, Maher said, the Fox News announcer responded, “You’re taking these lyrics out of context.” (The actual quote from the Fox News announcer was that they were “cut from the best of the most important contextual quotes.”)
Maher’s response? “In what context is ‘f*ing bitch’ a compliment?”
The real time The presenter also found irony in the statement released by Fox, in which he claimed: “This settlement reflects Fox’s continued commitment to the highest standards of journalism.”
Maher hit back: “You know what news outlets I think have even higher journalistic standards? The ones that don’t have to pay three-quarters of a billion dollars to lie.”
