He was one of the biggest names in the American music industry. On Sunday, April 2, Seymour Stein died at the age of 80 after a long battle with cancer. In 1966 the producer founded the label Sire Records, which would collaborate with tremendous artists over the years. In particular, we find The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Ramones or Madonna.
Second, he saw his career soar in the 80s thanks to Seymour Stein. In a tribute posted on Instagram, Madonna describes her first meeting with the producer, who was in the hospital at the time. One evening at a discotheque, a DJ played a song from the singer’s song. “The club was full. A man from Sire Records was there (Michael Rosenblat). He heard my post and asked if he could take me to meet his boss, Seymour Stein. When I met him, he was lying on a bed, with a cannula in his nose and an IV in his arm. I was plugging in my giant speaker to play my title on it! I played with him a few times and he signed me to his company that day. He was one of the most influential men in my life. Changed and shaped my world‘, she says. According to Madonna, Seymour Stein saw in her a religious figure, and no less.
“When she saw me she smiled and laughed and asked if I was related to the Virgin Mary! haha. I knew we would get along. I played my song to him several times (…) That moment changed the course of my life forever. And that was the beginning of my adventure as an artist. Not only did she listen to me, she saw me and my potential! i will be forever grateful to him“, he added.
