Doctor Who: RuPaul’s Drag Race icon Jinkx Monsoon joins the series alongside Ncuti Gatwa

Jinkx Monsoon, who previously starred in the Broadway musical Chicago and won RuPaul’s Drag Race twice, will join the Doctor Who franchise for a major role alongside new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa.

EW has confirmed that the two-time Drag Race winner – and most recently the Chicago star on Broadway – is joining the BBC sci-fi series in a major role.

“In a galaxy of comets and supernovae, here’s the biggest star of them all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again,” said series director Russell T Davies. in a press release. Jinkx Monsoon added: “I am honored, excited and totally thrilled to be joining Doctor Who! Russell T. Davies is a great visionary and author – I can’t wait to work with him and the team! TARDIS for my suitcase”.

Jinkx Monsoon will appear alongside Ncuti Gatwa, who joins next season as the Fifteenth Doctor. Millie Gibson will star as her partner Ruby Sunday in new episodes of the long-running series that began in 1963.

The Drag Race Season 5 and All Stars 7 champion has become one of the most in-demand actors in the show’s Emmy-winning history. She took on the role of Mama Morton on Broadway in Chicago in late 2022, and the production extended her first run to the end of March after seeing a surge in ticket sales for her shows. She is also set to go on a world tour with Everything At Stake later this year.
