A scenario inspired by an incredible story… but true!
Who says you can’t work for the CIA, Pablo Escobar and the US DEA at the same time? As unlikely as it sounds, the hot-tempered Barry Seal did it. To spice up his life, the pilot of the TWA company agrees on behalf of the government to photograph Marxist guerrilla camps in Latin America from the air, then carry guns and soon… cocaine for the Medellin cartel! Barry, a good guy from immoral rise, was caught in gear as hell, never being able to or say no.
There is a pilot on the plane.
Not content with being perfect in this villainous anti-hero role, Tom Cruise, who embarks on an adventure that surpasses him as much as it gets drunk, pilots himself on the screen. To the surprise of director Doug Liman, the actor flew one of the old cuckoo clocks from the United States to Colombia for filming.
An abrasive comedy
The tone is usually funny, as situations that have nothing funny in themselves are surreal. Still, the film frontally condemns the geopolitical immorality of the Reagan administration, and especially the Irangate scandal in which Seal found himself involved…despite itself!
