Season 2 of Marvel’s NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN will explore a Norman Osborn dynamic straight out of HBO’s SUCCESSION

Marvel Studios is preparing for a major shift in tone Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2, and it looks like things are about to get emotionally explosive.

According to the head of Marvel Television Brad Winderbaumthe new season will delve into the complex relationship between Peter Parker, Norman Osborn and Harry Osborn, with a dynamic that directly compares to the acclaimed HBO drama. Succession.

One of the biggest surprises of the first season was how the series reinvented Norman Osborn. Voiced by Colman Domingothis version of Norman took on a mentor role for Peter, replacing Tony Stark as Spider-Man’s guiding influence.

Norman pushed Peter to be a “better” Spider-Man, if not exactly a friendly one. Their partnership eventually fell apart, with Peter joining forces with Harry to create WEB (the Worldwide Engineering Brigade).

Now, with Norman in possession of the Venom symbiote, the path ahead seems darker. Fans are speculating whether he will evolve into the Green Goblin or take on the mantle of Venom himself, both of which could lead to serious emotional fallout.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Winderbaum teased what’s to come.

“Season 2 picks up right where Season 2 set the stage for us. Our showrunner, Jeff Trammell… we talk a lot about growth in power in terms of, you know, characters challenging other characters. They get stronger over time.”

“Emotionally, that’s what happens in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. There’s no stronger, wilder dynamic in that second season than Norman Osborn, Peter Parker and Harry Osborn.

“It’s almost like, at times, it feels like Succession or something. It’s exciting, it has real depth and it’s exciting. And the animation is crazy.”

That comparison with Succession is interesting, especially because the HBO series centers on the toxic, power-hungry Roy family fighting for control of their media empire.

It feels like the second season of Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man could take a similar approach, using Oscorp and the WEB as battlegrounds for ambition, loyalty, and betrayal. If Norman’s corruption takes hold, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Harry forced to take a stand against his father or for Norman to see Peter as the most “worthy” heir to his empire.

Season 2 also promises to be full of Marvel fan favorites. This was revealed in a trailer shown at New York Comic Con Charlie Cox returning as Daredevil, but this time in his classic red costume.

We’ll also see Spider-Gwen break into Oscorp, new appearances from Doctor Octopus, Scorpion, and Chameleon, and more of Nico Minoru embracing his magical powers.

Voice actor Alex Le (Amadeus Cho) recently teased how big the next chapter will be: “The only thing I can tease is that, what we did in the first season, it gets bigger and bigger, more tragic, funnier. Yes, it’s amazing. The people on that show are amazing.”

“My friend Jeff Trammellwho is the showrunner, he does an incredible job, and I’m so happy that the show has been so well received, and I’m so excited to see all of that in this new season.

Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man Season two will arrive on Disney+ next fall, continuing what’s shaping up to be Marvel’s most emotionally layered animated series yet.

All episodes of the first season are now streaming.
