How is your character, Thomas Delhaye, different from the other cops you’ve played?
Frederic Diefenthal: They are all different in one way or another. Thomas is a flawed man despite himself. He progressed as best he could with disappointments, wounds, and this Ménière’s disease (causing dizziness and progressive hearing loss, editor’s note) gnawing it. He chooses not to talk about it and minimizes everything by taking refuge in his work. But everything has an end, and he knows that end has come.
A particularly violent murder will result in Juliette (camped by Murielle Huet des Aunay), imprisoned for a similar case, out of jail for a few days…
A strange term or two will arise between the resumption of justice and this police officer. we are in a climate PrisonBy Claude Miller, the more glamorous is where we constantly wonder what would happen between these two heroes.
We are more in a psychological thriller than a classic police investigation…
Always looking for consistency and originality in a story, I decided to read the script. We are going out of the ordinary, this fiction is first and foremost an atmospheric film with an aesthetic universe. It was very daring for France 2 to go into this universe where scenery plays a role in itself. We leave time for silence. That’s the power of director Laurent Tuel. He respects the television object while giving it a perspective, oscillating between television and cinema. It’s very nice for us gamers.
You give the answer to Murielle Huet des Aunay. Did you know him before filming?
No, and it was a real discovery, both as a person and as an actor. Murielle is a master at her ambiguous interpretation. There was a symbiosis between us. I like to develop these encounters. In the last thirty years they have been rich in my profession, often fruitful and pleasant surprises.
Fiction takes the 2022 Grand Prix for French television movie at the Cognac Festival…
While I have always doubted the competitive spirit of our profession, you are always happy when you receive this type of award. It is also a tribute to the entire team.
You’ve been talking to me since the shootHere it all begins (TF1). What’s next for your character Antoine as the director of the Auguste-Armand Institute?
From mid-March there will be a feast of revelation! Several arches will be intertwined, and Antoine will surprise himself, for example, by making unusual decisions. The “good cop-bad cop” duo he formed with Emmanuel Teyssier (Benjamin Baroche) will also develop in a very funny way.
Will Antoine tighten the screws on his students?
When she’s angry, it’s a bit like my kids: I yell, but that’s not why I’m respected. (Laughs) I threaten, but I don’t always fulfill it. If you ask me what I have in common with Antoine, that’s it!
