Ivory football is in mourning. On Sunday, March 5th, Racing Club d’Abidjan, the Ivory Coast’s premier league team, which has partnerships with OGC Nice in France, announced the death of its player, Moustapha Sylla. The 21-year-old football player died of a heart attack while playing a match the previous day:Our defender Sylla Moustapha passed away this evening as a result of discomfort on the ground during the RCA-Sol FC match. The administration sends its sincerest condolences to the family. Rest in peace Mustafa.” Logossina Cissé, president of RC Abidjan, added:AFP : “During his evacuation to the hospital, Moustapha died. He came to the club last September and was just 21 years old.“
On Facebook, the Ivory Football Federation took a moment of silence following the disappearance of Moustapha Sylla: “The President of the Ivory Islands Football Federation and its board of directors sadly announce that on Sunday, March 5, 2023, Racing Club d’Abidjan’s left-back Moustapha Sylla died after collapsing on the stadium grass during the match. Racing Club d’Abidjan is facing SOL FC on the 20th day of Ligue 1 LONACI. The 21-year-old young man, who was taken to the hospital, unfortunately succumbed to his illness. At these painful and emotional moments, the FIF extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, the directors and players of Racing Club d’Abidjan, and the Ivorian football family. FIF asks everyone to pray for the peace of their soul.“
