Peasant girl (France 2): "With this true story, we understand the absurdity of some laws."

France 2 is broadcasting a fictional story this Wednesday at 9:10pm called A peasant’s daughter, which tells the true story of a young girl who decides to start an online kitty to help her debtor farmer family. We meet Carole Bianic, who won the female commentary award at the Luchon TV Festival 2023 for her role, and Justine Lacroix, who plays the mother and daughter of this family.

What kind of place is given to the Pécourneau family, whose story is told, in this project? country girl ?

Carole Bianic : Screenwriter Monica Rattazzi, who was involved in the birth of this project with producer Floriane Cortes (Mintee Studio), chose not to meet the family right away, as telling other people’s stories is still scary. But before shooting, they approved the script and wanted to come to the set – I understand them, I would have done the same because it was their story that was being told. It was very touching: they cried several times and hugged us. This is a lauded life story.

Is it extra pressure to tell a true story?

Justine Lacroix : Yes, especially when you see them come to the set. I am someone who is always stressed out and very afraid of missing something. I felt it was an important story that needed to be told and well told.

Carole Bianic : We couldn’t miss it. As soon as the script is good, the story will tell itself. But I will always remember that I shot the last scene in the garden. Members of the Pécourneau family were extras, and as I listened to Thierry Godard, I met the gaze of my father with tears in his eyes. We were right and it got me emotional…

What did you find most difficult on set?

CB : I remember the cold outside, especially on the set. For example, I had to sit at a completely frozen wrought iron table. It was so cold I couldn’t speak, I was paralyzed… I had shots in the cold, but there was something there…

JL : I wasn’t shooting but I was there and I saw Carole trying to get inside to get as warm as she could.

CB : Everything not to do (laughs). But it’s hard to resist taking bottles of very hot hot water with you, which gets even colder when you go out! It was really hard, I couldn’t express it anymore.

How do you view the history of this family?

CB : Because we empathize so much, we immediately take ownership of such stories. The madness they’re going through… The law of the market, globalization, Brussels (although no with financial aid)… Disaster there, With this story we understand the absurdity of some laws. Can we make the same directives for so many countries when there are so many special circumstances?

How did you prepare for this role?

JL: When I first read the script, I put myself in the role as I always do: I sit on my bed and imagine all the scenes, even if they are not shot like that. But I’m really trying to imagine a world. I felt really close to this character because I always have a desire to help and support my family.

Are you confident for this role, Carole?

CC: We always attribute what belongs to us to our character. There, like him, I’m very protective. I thought I would be tough with my kids, but in the end it turned out to be just the opposite. Murielle Pécourneau is strong until it’s too much for her. Had it not been for this fault, his daughter might not have made this pot. I don’t know how to react in this situation, but we do it ourselves. When I was offered this role, I was very happy to tell this story to the world.

Did you hesitate before saying yes?

in chorus: NO !

JL : This was also true for everyone on set. We were all happy to make this movie.

CC: This shot was fascinating. We didn’t want to go home anymore…

This is your first shoot together. What did you appreciate most in the other?

CC: What touches me is the dichotomy between the little stress he can have and the lightness he has when he’s already doing some sets. (talking to Justine) You’re laughing and having fun with everyone, you have no filters or barriers and it feels great on set. You blow up all the pre-established shooting rules a bit…

From Justine to Carol: Me, a little bit of your weird mommy side. He was always there for me, but whenever I needed a laugh, I would call on him to do stupid things. We have a somewhat teenage relationship like mother and daughter. Laughing Loud (comedy by Lisa Azuelos, editor’s note).

CC: Still, thanks to Justine, I made my first TikTok. Many people were affected (laughs). We loved working together.

Justine, did you keep in touch with your godmother Chiara Mastroianni for the Révélations des Césars?

JL: No, it’s too complicated to keep in touch with some people. Then I tried with Bouli Lanners This love and I failed. In general, I am in contact with the technical team rather than the players.

CC: These are difficult, very popular and very busy people… We want to keep in touch, but we can’t always see each other after 2-3 years. So of course we’re lost. But if we meet again, it will be a party. It is the profession that demands it.

JL: I love being in contact with people because I love talking to people I really care about. But seeing that they have new projects when we have nothing is a bit difficult, even if I try to ignore it.

CB : Because you’re young…

What are your next projects?

JL: I recently shot in a drama. Seventh Heaven (OCS) was released last January. We’re all hopeful for season 2, but we don’t know. I will show too normal It will be released on April 5, by Olivier Babinet.

CB : There are things that I can’t talk about in conversations for now. But I started to write. I have 3 projects – film, short film, TV series – and a lot of desires. The older I get, the more I wonder. And I want to do more: tell stories, go back to college… I want to do anything!
