Anton is opening a TV production division led by former Fremantle graduates Sangeeta Desai and Sarah Doole.
The producer and financier’s London-based TV clothier will create global programming through the boutique studio, and the outfit is trying to attract creatives to work with on scripted labels across Europe. The TV division will also explore direct and first-look deals with established talent on and off screen.
To run the business, Anton hired a high-caliber duo of business unit boss Desai and creative director Doole, who had worked closely together at Fremantle.
Doole, who was most recently CEO of It is a sin Producer Red Productions, and former Fremantle director of Global Drama, will set up content plans, while Desai will oversee strategy, operations and business development. Desai’s previous positions include Boatrocker Media Board Director and Fremantle Global COO and CEO of Emerging Markets.
Anton founder Sébastien Raybaud said “the expertise, experience and enthusiasm of the duo will be invaluable”, adding: “This step is an important milestone in the development of the company”.
Desai said: “Anton has quickly gained a reputation for revolutionizing the way feature films are funded and produced, and I’m excited to see how we can leverage Anton’s agility and flexibility to take the opportunity to some of Europe’s best creative minds and ambitions to work for them.”
Doole and Desai are joined by Jack Buckley, Anton’s current vice president of manufacturing and engineering who has been promoted to chief development officer. The Gunpowder and Sky alum will oversee the series co-productions and the new indie leads, while Millie Laubscher, as development assistant, will close things out.
In addition to the London headquarters, there are offices in LA, Paris and Berlin, including previous Anton projects Paddington, are dark materials and mr jack It currently develops, produces and funds artists such as Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway The mother’s instinct and The end we assume with Jodie Comer and Benedict Cumberbatch.
The company recently partnered with talent management firm Range Media Partners and increased its investment in French powerhouse Newen Studios to 50 million euros ($54.3 million).
