EXCLUSIVE: Allie Fox and his family will not return The Mosquito Coast since Apple TV+ decided not to continue the third season of the drama series. The decision comes two weeks after season 2 ended with an explosive finale.
The series is loosely based on Paul Theroux’s best-selling 1981 novel, but fans won’t see the book and its film adaptation move into more familiar territory, starring Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and River Phoenix.

Available on Apple TV+, the first two seasons are essentially a prequel to the book and film, directed by Peter Weir.
They created a background for Justin Theroux’s Allie as a “highly intelligent enemy of the state” and fleshed out the character of Margo, played by George, who is simply called “Mother” in the book.
Writer Paul Theroux recently told Deadline that if there was a third season, “it would change the book itself and the film’s quest for a utopian community.”
“But we don’t know by the end of season two if Allie is there or if Margo is alone. This is the cliffhanger,” he added, at the explosive end.
In season 2, after narrowly escaping Mexico with their lives, the foxes venture deep into the Guatemalan jungle to meet an old friend and her refugee community. However, this new haven causes problems for the foxes when they become caught up in a conflict between a local drug lord and his family. Allie and Margot disagree on whether to settle down or move on, and take different paths to secure their family’s future. The result of this will unite the family or tear it apart forever.

Bob Bookman, Alan Gasmer and Peter Jaysen serve as executive producers for Veritas Entertainment Group. The series was made for television and was produced by Neil Cross. Developed by Neil Cross and Tom Bissell, The Mosquito Coast is a Fremantle production for Apple TV+.
