It’s one of those early-of-the-year appointments at the cinema. Coming to the darkrooms next February 3 Asterix and Obelix: The Middle KingdomDirected by Guillaume Canet. It’s an ambitious project because it has the second-largest budget in franchise history at 65 million euros. Asterix at the OlympicsIn an interview with the magazine, whose budget was estimated at around 75 million euros in 2008, Television 7 Days Guillaume Canet, which will premiere on newsstands on Monday, January 23, said there has been a lot of interest in his film:Four years of work between writing, preparation, shooting and post-production. A lot of work, a huge budget: about 65 million euros!” Enough to impress the person who embodies Asterix as well as directs the movie: “It’s terrifying to know what that means. There are scenes with 500 extras, all of which are hand-stitched. The technical team consisted of 1,200 people. For the joke, the costume designer dyed all the fabrics with the same pigments and cauldrons as the Gauls did! I wanted this honesty and high-performance adventure movie, not just a comedy.“
Add to this an eerie cast of French cinema’s biggest names like Gilles Lellouche (Obélix), Marion Cotillard (Cléopâtre) or Vincent Cassel (César). Also in the cast are many stars, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Antivirus), Angèle (Falbala) and McFly and Carlito (Radius and Cubitus), among others, who have come to contribute to the production of this blockbuster. So all the ingredients seem to be in place for the feature film to be successful with the public. However, a few weeks before its theatrical release, Guillaume Canet admits he was skeptical when he shared his mood:At the same time, I’m happy that I finished it, that I went where I wanted, the movie looks like what I wanted, and at the same time, I am in a lot of pain because the period was fragile. Film output can be damaged by external factors. I hope people enjoy this great family movie.“
