National Geographic has green lit a new series titled outsider with Ryan Reynolds as narrator.
outsider tells the story of nature’s heroic underdogs – the good, the bad and the downright ugly. From her hidden talents to her daring hygiene choices, unsavory courtship rituals, cunning camouflage techniques and tough love parenting skills, outsider celebrates and champions the unique and unpredictable behavior of a little-known and surprising group of animal characters.
These overlooked superstars come in all sizes, shapes and flavors. They are the outcasts and the troublemakers, rude, unsophisticated, windy, incontinent and often out of joint. But they are also warriors, team players and evil geniuses. They are there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and do their utmost to keep nature in good condition for all the parading polar bears, sharks and gorillas.
According to a teaser released on Friday, the series will be released in 2025.
“I like nature shows and I like doing things that my kids can actually see,” Reynolds said. “We’re already having a lot of fun giving animal docs a new voice. Wildstar has the expertise, experience and advanced film technology to help us chew through this healthy National Geographic budget. We are going to deliver an entertaining and surprising show that does justice to the animals that are usually kept as supporting actors.
The series is produced by Wildstar Films and Maximum Effort. Reynolds Executive Produces with George Dewey for Maximum Effort. Wildstar executive producers Vanessa Berlowitz, Mark Linfield and Dan Rees; and Dave Denny is series producer.
“outsider explore wildlife from a fresh, fun and highly entertaining perspective. Working closely with Ryan and Maximum Effort allows us to incorporate their inimitable humor every step of the way – from concept to delivery of this unique series,” Rees said in a statement. outsider will make you gasp with laughter and possibly even spill your coffee on your lap, but it ultimately shines a new spotlight on some of our planet’s strangest and lesser-explored inhabitants, all backed by solid science and research.
President Courteney Monroe of National Geographic Content added: “outsider represents a whole new approach to the natural history genre, according to Monroe, that will delight and inform viewers of all ages. “Bringing the irreverent spirit of Ryan and Maximum Effort, and Wildstar’s award-winning wildlife storytelling expertise, we’ve assembled the perfect team to tell the entertaining stories of nature’s unsung heroes with humor and heart.”
