On Reddit’s AMA (Ask Me Anything) subreddit, the 33-year-old airline employee, who goes by sassy_chick01, said she was “experiencing a bit of turmoil” and volunteered the time to answer people’s burning questions about air travel.
During the question-and-answer session, the flight attendant made a rude revelation about the amenities on board after someone asked: “Real talk: How dirty are the planes?” What about the bathroom?’
“Airplanes are dirty. They don’t disinfect them,” she admitted.

“The bathrooms are basically just a quick wipe between flights.”
The flight attendant opened her mail to all questions except the one about the Mile High Club, which she found “annoying” because she “already answered it.”
Another curious Reddit user asked her: “Do you have to use the same toilets as passengers?”
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen an FA (flight attendant) use the toilet.”
The flight attendant answered candidly: “Yes, we do. Most of us try to avoid it if possible.”
And she has every reason to be horrified at the thought of using a restroom, because “the toilet flush button on the plane had 265 bacterial colony-forming units (CFU) per square inch,” according to Forbes.
Despite the belief that the toilet is the most unsanitary room on a plane, there are other parts that are surprisingly dirtier.
Believe it or not, airplane seatbacks top the list for dirtiest places.
The trash cans contain eight times more bacteria than toilets: about 2,155 CFU per square centimeter.

Experts recommend wiping down tray tables with antibacterial wipes before eating.
They also advised people to bring their own blankets.
Freshly laundered blankets and pillows are only provided on the first flights of the day.
After a flight, the items are folded up and then reused by the next passengers.
