“Forget the Blue Lagoon!” Traveler visits picturesque Icelandic resort surrounded by trees no one talks about

A travel vlogger says she’s going to “forget the Blue Lagoon” and visit another picturesque Icelandic spa that she says “no one talks about.”

Em Sheldon documented her visit to Skogarboo, known as the “forest lagoon”, near the town of Akureyri.

In a video on her TikTok account, the travel vlogger said: “Everyone goes to Iceland and talks about going to the Blue Lagoon and I have to say, I’ve never heard anyone talk about this spa.”

“You’re basically hidden away in a little forest and it’s just pristine. “The water is deliciously warm, thermally heated and you really feel like you are in nature.”

She added that luxury amenities also include a plunge pool, a “crazy” sauna, a hot tub and Icelandic water to drink while bathing in the heated springs.

Ms Sheldon documented her experience by saying:

Em Sheldon posted a video on her TikTok account documenting her visit to Skogarboo, known as the “Forest Lagoon”, near the town of Akureyri in northern Iceland

Ms Sheldon summed up her time at Forest Lagoon: “It’s a bucket list of things to do. It was so special and nobody talks about it.’

Her video, which has been viewed more than 250,000 times, has been positively received by users who have stayed at Forest Lagoon themselves.

One user wrote: “Was there last year.” “Forest Lagoon is SO BEAUTIFUL.” A second commented: “We were there to see the Northern Lights and it was breathtaking!” Another wrote: “I was here in March – so beautiful!!! “I liked how quiet it was.”

Forest Lagoon, which opened in April 2022, is surrounded by trees, a rarity in Iceland as only three percent of the country’s land surface is classified as forest.

You can also watch the spectacular Northern Lights from the water of the pool.

The pool – in the town of Akureyri in the north of Iceland – is connected to tree-lined walking trails, so you can enjoy the peaceful surroundings before or after a dip in the naturally warm water

If you’re in the mood for a relaxing swim, you’ll be spoiled for choice between the forest lagoon (which naturally has a lovely temperature of 39 to 42 degrees Celsius), an infinity oasis, a cold plunge pool and a sauna .

As well as being an attractive proposition for anyone visiting Iceland, Skogarboo was built with sustainability at the forefront of the project.

All building materials have been chosen to be environmentally friendly, sustainable and responsibly produced without adding any chemicals to the water.

In addition, all cleaning materials are eco-friendly and the shampoo and soap on site are organic.

The Skogarboo project began by chance in 2015 when the nearby construction of the new Vaolaheioi Mountain Tunnel encountered a geothermal water source.
