The royals released a new photo of the queen and members of the royal family in 1974 as part of the ongoing 70-day countdown to the queen’s platinum anniversary weekend.

Today’s photo shows the Queen standing by the cemetery with the Duke of Edinburgh and then-26-year-old Prince Charles, laying wreaths on Memorial Day Sunday.

The Queen’s cousin, the Duke of Kent, is also seen in the mausoleum in the black and white photograph.

The countdown is announced on the royal family’s Instagram page: “For the next 70 days, as we count down to the #PlatinumJubilee Celebration Weekend, we will each day share a picture of the Queen each representing one year of Her Majesty’s reign.

Each of the 70 photos represents a year in the monarch’s reign, and each post also highlights an important historical moment from the same year.

The message today spoke of the Eurovision Song Contest that was held in Brighton that year.

Sweden won the competition with ABBA’s song “Waterloo”.

The Queen celebrates 70 years on the throne on 6 February 2022, making her the longest reigning monarch in British history, and a weekend celebration will be held from 2-5 June to commemorate the milestone.

Yesterday, the royal family shared an image of the queen waving to soldiers as they marched to the Mounted Guards Parade for the League of Colors in 1973.

The caption accompanying the image, which garnered more than 50,000 likes, reads: “The Queen salutes the soldiers marching to the Mounted Guards Parade to Unite Colors.

And speaking of the year the photo was taken, it says, “In 1973, the first phone call was made from a portable cell phone.”

Royal fans were quick to post positive comments about the image. Many people shared the heart emoji, while others commented on the queen’s dress.
