Channing Tatum on His Wild and Canceled Movie GAMBIT: “We Had Mutants Having Sex!”

Channing Tatum he is once again talking about his long lost one I’m gambling movie he tried to make when 20th Century Fox still controlled the X-Men universe.

The actor, who finally got to play the fan-favorite mutant in Marvel Deadpool and Wolverinerecently revealed how crazy and audacious his original vision for Gambit was.

In an interview with Variety, Tatum didn’t hold back on what fans missed. “Look… if we had made our Fox version, that script would never have been made, ever,” he said.

“It was an R-rated romantic comedy. And when I say R-rated, I mean we tried. We made Gambit the kind of character that could only exist in a Deadpool movie. We had mutants having sex! It was wild, complete.”

“It’s something that Marvel and Disney would never do. You don’t always know what Disney is going to be, but you definitely know what it’s not going to be. It’s not going to be horror. It’s not going to be sex.

“But I think Marvel needs that kind of tonal diversity; something to balance the other side. Gambit is a great opportunity for that. There’s so much you can do with him, and he’s slowly integrating into the Marvel psyche. It’s fascinating, and I think one day they’ll get it.”

Tatum’s Gambit film was originally pitched as a classy, sexy R-rated romp through the mutant world, something closer in tone to Deadpool than the traditional X-Men films.

The idea was to highlight the charm, bravado and chaos that make Remy LeBeau such a unique Marvel character. Unfortunately, Disney’s acquisition of Fox put an end to these plans before the cameras could even roll.

Even though that version of Gambit never made it out of development, Tatum hasn’t given up hope that the character could have a real future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “If the fans really want it, I think there is a world where Gambit could finally get his due,” he added.

The next thing we see is Tatum’s Gambit Avengers: Judgment Daybut it remains to be seen whether Marvel Studios will ever take a chance on the R-rated version of Tatum, but one thing is clear: the fans would absolutely show up.
