Chloe Cherry openly shared how the trauma of losing her father to cancer at a young age made her want to “escape her life” and said she didn’t think she would have devoted herself to porn or acting had she lived. .
The 24-year-old Euphoria star reflected on her childhood growing up in a largely conservative neighborhood in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in an interview featured on the Going Mentally With Eileen Kelly podcast.
Cherry, who has starred in over 200 adult films, said she was raised “really beautiful” but her life as she knew it changed when her father died when she was eight years old.
“I always thought that if my father lived, I would be normal,” she said. “I’d go to college like a normal fucking person and randomly do some stupid job and be a stupid normal person. I wouldn’t do any of this if my dad was around. I wouldn’t be Chloe Cherry if my dad was still around.”

“It was really hard because when you were very young it was like watching someone battle cancer for a year and he was your father,” she explained. “It was really weird getting used to not only the idea that someone was sick, but also the idea that they could be your parents and not just survive, but go away. Everything was very, very, very heavy back then.’
Cherry and her brother went to child therapists when they were in pain, but remembered that they were “really bad” and “not helpful at all.”
“Fortunately, my mother had many good friends who were very close to us,” she said. “This helped me knowing that we would get support.”

Cherry moved to Miami to start her porn career right after she turned 18 in 2015.

Cherry’s grades were so low that she “just graduated.” She wonders if she’s still a “stupid person” because she did a bad job at school.
“Sometimes I’ll try to be nice to myself, like, you know, ‘Your father died. Some people will do worse than failing in school when their parents die. Cherry thinks that if her father had not died, she would have gone to college and found a steady job outside the entertainment industry.

When she told him she wanted to move to Miami to become an adult movie star instead of going to college, she told him to do so.
“I really can’t do porn. I’m dying,” he told her, but changed his mind after he suggested researching the industry and the lives of other pornstars.
