Although there are many stories in the “Predator” franchise that have diversified across various media, there are also fans who have taken it upon themselves to tell their own version of the Predators in a fan-film, which presented some ideas that have been later seen in ‘Preda’, which they accuse of plagiarism.
The new film in the ‘Predator’ saga is ‘Prey’, directed by Dan Trachtenberg and starring Amber Midthunder as Naru, a young warrior from a Comanche tribe in the year 1700, in the first arrival of the alien hunter on Earth. This concept is very similar to that of a fan-made film, from which the first ideas for the film released on Disney + are said to have arisen.
The story starring Midthunder is characterized by the use of rudimentary weapons, as well as by an aesthetic not as technological as in the rest of the franchise. Here’s why some netizens accuse ‘Prey’ plagiarize ‘Warrior: predator’, a 7-minute short film made by Chris R. Notarile, a fan of the saga.
The short film can be found on YouTube and on ‘Warrior: predator’ you can see a similarity of its protagonist with that of ‘Prey’. In the fan-film, the story follows a 16th-century Native American woman who must survive a group of predators, using only a knife and spear.
The protagonist of ‘Prey’ is very similar to that of ‘Warrior: Predator’
As you can see, the protagonists of ‘Prey’ Y ‘Warrior: predator’ they are quite similarthe difference is that the short film was released in 2019, and was previewed on the director’s YouTube channel, who said that “For some years now I have had the idea that an indigenous warrior faces a Predator, but more precisely that the entire short film has zero dialogue.
However, the same Notarile explained in an interview with Looper that his story is actually based on ‘Prey’: “For a few years I had the idea that an indigenous warrior faces a Predator, but more specifically, that everything the short has zero dialogue ”.
Fox’s response was, “The Predator franchise will not violate any protectable elements,” which means that while they were aware of “Warrior: Predator”, in “Prey” they would only take the official story from the previous films. Even so, Notarile received suggestions to sue Disney for plagiarism, but “I’m still the little one in this scenario” and gave up.
