6 comic and anime adaptations Netflix could have done a better job with – Netflix (courtesy)
In recent times, comic book, anime or video game adaptations have become so popular that almost every week there is a new one, in theaters or on streaming platforms. And if Netflix wants to carve out a space and a point of reference in this world, it needs to do a better job for the future.
The man of sand
Sadly, having one of the most acclaimed graphic novels, and considered a masterpiece of ninth art and literature in general, Netflix has had problems with ‘The Sandman’, even when writer Neil Gaiman himself is involved. While it does a great job with the overall story, the art, setting, and punk spirit of the original work are seen in very few places in the adaptation.
Cowboy Bebop
The same goes for the story of Shinishiro Watanabe, one of the most important science fiction anime in history, which Netflix adapted into ‘Cowboy Bebop’. Daniella Pineda, John Cho and Mustafa Shakir starred in the first season of this series which was canceled after its end, and all for failing to convey the essence of the original work.
legacy of Jupiter
Just as Marvel, DC Comics and Amazon Prime Video with “The Boys” were gaining ground in the superhero genre from everyone, Netflix wanted to adapt “The Jupiter Legacy,” the comic book-based story by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely. Frankly, there are a lot of flaws in this adaptation, but the most unforgivable was that the platform had little faith in the story.
death Note
Returning to the field of Japanese animation, one of the most revered titles of the genre is “Death Note”, an anime adapted by Netflix, directed by Adam Wingard, and Willem Dafoe, Nat Wolff and Lakeith Stanfield in the main roles. Honestly, the most notable thing was Dafoe’s work as Ryuk, the rest a story that crossed the water in all respects.
gluttonous
While on the surface it looks like it’s a good fantasy and drama series, as is, if we look at the source material, the Netflix adaptation of the DC comic, ‘Sweet Tooth’ lasts a few rounds. But it is that the streaming platform does not have the courage to leave behind some of the darkest and rawest moments of the original story.
The end of Fuking’s world
In the world of graphic novels, ‘The End of the Fucking World’ ranks among the best, according to various subject matter experts. And although in general Netflix has done one of its best work with the black comic series, visually and narratively it fails to print a unique stamp that differentiates it from the rest of its productions.
