On the eve of the awards season, “The Brutalist” found itself in the middle of a scandal, having received the main Golden Globe award, including the statuettes for director and best actor. Filmmakers have been accused of using artificial intelligence.
Although these technologies have not been officially banned, many in the industry are sounding the alarm, fearing that AI will replace humans. Recently, Taxi Driver screenwriter Paul Schrader also came under fire for the same reason, with claims that ChatGPT can generate original ideas and write scripts faster than professionals.
The drama “Brutalist” tells the story of a Hungarian architect who moves to the United States after World War II to implement a wealthy client’s order.
It is known that director Brady Corby used the Respeecher program to convey the originality of the characters’ Hungarian speech and to create several buildings at the end of the film. Initially, ADR (automatic dialogue replacement or recording of additional dialogue by actors in the studio – Ed.) was used to record complex letters and sounds, but this method did not yield results. Therefore, the director and Adrien Brody, who starred in the film, agreed that it would be faster and more efficient to seek the help of artificial intelligence. Filmmakers emphasized that they are far from the first to use artificial intelligence in film production.
But this is not the only misfortune. Many film critics now fear that the front-runner will suffer an Oscar upset due to low audiences due to the fires in the Hollywood Hills.
